Uttara Traffic Division this morning (October 25, 2022) asked city dwellers to refrain from traveling on Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway unless it is urgent as traffic situation to Gazipur through Khilkhet-Uttara turned very bad.

Heavy rains under the influence of cyclone Sitrang have caused waterlogging at different parts of the roads in Gazipur, it said.

Police officials said commuters on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway have been suffering since yesterday due to tailback caused by water-logging at Banani, Khilkhet and Uttara.

Besides, roads were dug at several points under the BRT project in the area, making the situation worst, police officials and witness said.

In the morning, many commuters and officer-goers were seen waddling in the water. Many passengers left the buses and started walking for their destination due to huge traffic, they said.

"Vehicles could hardly pass the road in Uttara as different points in Gazipur was inundated due to the incessant rain," Nabid Kamal Shaibal, deputy commissioner of Uttara Traffic Division, told The Daily Star.

"So, we requested to avoid the road unless its emergency," he said, adding that they are pumping out water from the roads in Uttara area.

However, the traffic situation towards Mohakhali from Uttara and Tongi is comparatively better, traffic police officials said.
