Taylor’s ADTP
Leaping over 300 places in the QS World University Rankings this year, Taylor's University in Malaysia is the leading private university in Southeast Asia. Of the many programmes which exemplifies its excellence in education, Taylor's American Degree Transfer Program (ADTP) is a transfer programme that offers a diverse set of majors in the areas of Business, Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Computing, Natural Sciences, Applied Sciences, Engineering, Language, Literature, Communication, History, Performing Arts and Social Sciences.
Taylor's ADTP has continued to be a popular choice amongst local and international students for its intensive student-lecturer interactions, broad range of courses, and numerous extra-curricular activities. It has prepared thousands of students for successful transfers to renowned universities in the US, Canada, Australia and many other parts of the world since its inception in 1996.
Through this reputable Taylor's ADTP transfer pathway, students would be able to complete two years of their four-year degree in multicultural Malaysia, enabling them to save substantially on tuition fees and lifestyle costs and subsequently perform a seamless transfer to a US university of choice to complete their last two years of study.
During their time in Taylor's ADTP, students will undertake a wide variety of courses – general education courses and several core requirements related to their specified major.
The program prides itself in providing a seamless transition for high school leavers to adapt to the American curricula and lifestyle as it emphasises the tenets of the American education system, which places much importance on developing well-rounded graduates who excel beyond their fields of study.
The courses are structured in a similar manner with similar modes of assessment, delivery methods, and teaching approaches. A pertinent feature of the program is that it empowers students as they are able to curate their learning by selecting the desired courses to pursue every semester as long as they fulfil the required pre or co-requisites indicated.
Even throughout the recent pandemic period, Taylor's ADTP continued to actively conduct webinars and guest lectures in collaboration with US and Canadian university professors and recently had the opportunity to host a US Fulbright scholar for a period of 3 months on its campus here in Malaysia. This demonstrates the university's strong ties with renowned tertiary institutions worldwide.
Taylor's ADTP also maintains a large alumni network that enables present students enrolled in the program to establish contact and seek advice from their seniors. Saima Sharif, from Dhaka, Bangladesh is one such alumna who pursued this transfer pathway after completing her high school IGCSE examinations. She has since successfully transferred to the prestigious University of Michigan, Ann Arbor to pursue a degree in biology.
According to Saima, her time at Taylor's ADTP was an important part of her life because not only did she save time and money, but also had the best two years in Malaysia.
"It taught me to become more independent before moving to the other end of the world to complete the remaining 2 years of my degree," Saima said, adding that she plans on finishing university within the next year, and this would not have been possible without the support of her parents or the faculty and counsellors at Taylor's University.
Similarly, alumnus Raiyan, who also hails from Bangladesh, pursued his dream of becoming an aerospace engineer through this transfer pathway.
"The lecturers at ADTP are great at what they do and make sure the curriculum is aligned to that of American universities. Now that I am studying aerospace engineering at the University at Buffalo in NY state, I can easily say that this would have never been possible if not for Taylor's ADTP," he said.
On the other hand, Faizaan Rabib refers to Malaysia as his second home as he has been living here with his parents for over eight years since moving from Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Having pursued his high school education in Malaysia too, Faizaan is now looking forward to leaving for the US very soon. During his time at Taylor's ADTP, Faizaan was appointed as president of Taylor's Bangladesh Student Society (2021-22) and the international student representative of the ADTP Student Union.
These responsibilities have helped him hone his leadership and social networking skills. He appreciates the opportunities and attributes his achievements thus far to his family, friends, teachers, and relatives back home in Bangladesh.
The various clubs and societies at Taylor's University maintains collaborations with non-governmental organisations and various industry stakeholders from time to time. Taylor's University's campus facilities are also designed to provide students with a conducive environment to develop and nurture their desired academic and extracurricular skillsets.
According to the Program Director of Taylor's ADTP, Dr Loh Kah Heng, a recent survey among the Alumni currently studying in the US indicated that many US Universities have accepted more than 90 per cent of the credits completed in Taylor's ADTP, which makes this pathway an affordable option.
