Mahiya Mahi dreams of becoming MP
Popular Bengali film actress, Mahiya Mahi wants to take part in the MP (Member of Parliament) elections. The actress wants to become an MP for the Rajshahi-1(Tanore-Godagari) constituency. Mahi mentioned her intention to become an MP while speaking to reporters at her maternal grandparent's house in Mundumala in the Tanore upazila on Friday afternoon.
On the occasion of the 59th birthday of Bangabandhu's youngest son, Sheikh Russel, a kabaddi tournament was organised on the grounds of Mundumala's Fazar Ali Molla Degree College by Mahiya Mahi's Swapno Foundation and the district sports association.
After watching the kabaddi tournament, the actress spoke with reporters who were in attendance. "I have always followed the ideologies of Bangabandhu. These are the ideologies I hope everyone will follow and I want to inform them about it, if they don't already know. Even though I don't understand politics, I have also stepped foot into this arena. I want to serve people," said Mahi.
In response to a question about whether she would be joining politics soon, Mahi replied, "Bangabandhu sacrificed his life, his youth, and even sacrificed spending time with his family. I see these things as politics".
When asked about her intentions to part in the future MP elections, Mahi said, "Not at present, as it is too late now. If the people of the area have a desire to see me as an MP, then by the grace of the Almighty, it will happen."
Mahi is currently the Joint General Secretary of the central committee of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote. She is also serving as the convener for the Rajshahi division of the organisation. There have been a lot of rumours that Mahiya Mahi might be active in Awami League politics in the future.
