A man carries a stone, weighing at least 25-30kgs, on his back from a stream in Shada Pathor area of Sylhet’s Bholaganj. Despite the government’s restrictions on taking stones from the area some people illegally pick stones from there and sell them off to stone crushers to make a quick buck.

Members of Gazipur Oitijjho O Unnayan Sangathan (Heritage and Development Organisation) held a sit-in programme at the Joydevpur railway station yesterday morning to press home their 10-point demand, including reintroduction of the monthly ticketing system. The protest caused several trains to be stuck for around an hour.
