It was a dream come true: Mariam Afiza
Mariam Afiza, the driver who operated the inaugural journey of the country's first metro rail, said it was a dream fulfilled that Prime Minster and other dignitaries were her passengers on the momentous occasion.
"Actually, it's a dream come true for us. Like everybody, I was excited and I was happy. As prime minister was with us during the journey, it was a proud moment for me," she told journalists after completing the inaugural journey of metro rail.
"It is a matter of pride that I was part of the first journey of metro rail."
Regarding the metro rail, she said it is an environment-friendly transport and sophisticated one. "We took proper training home and abroad. Now, we are certified to operate the train."
She said people of Dhaka experienced severe traffic congestion every day.
"We all hope that the people of the city will be rid of the curse of traffic congestion [through the metro rail]."
