Ben Affleck’s sports film about Nike to release on April 5
"AIR", an upcoming sports drama starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, will premiere in theaters worldwide on April 5, prior to its release on Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports, and Mandalay Pictures are financing the sports drama about popular sports brand Nike's game-changing early days.
It is also the first film produced by Affleck and Damon's launched, Artists Equity.
The film revolves around the story of Nike's long-shot campaign to recruit emerging superstar basketball player Michael Jordan, for a shoe contract in the mid-'80s. An endorsement that looked unattainable at the time but, due to the maverick sneaker salesman, would become the most significant partnership between an athletic brand and an athlete in history, creating a worldwide, multibillion-dollar business.
Damon portrays former Nike executive Sonny Vaccaro, while Affleck represents Nike co-founder Phil Knight.
The cast also includes Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Gustaf Skarsgård and Julius Tennon among others.
