Khulna Tigers opener Tamim Iqbal is set to miss the remaining part of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) having opted to recover from his previous injuries which according to sources have resurfaced yet again.

The Tigers ODI skipper suffered from a back strain injury that kept him out of action for most of last year and the 33-year-old struggled with a groin injury leading up to the ongoing edition of the tournament. But he was able to recover from the injuries and had a decent run with the bat for Khulna amassing 302 runs in the 10 matches he played at a strike rate of 122.26.

Khulna are already out of contention for the knockout stage of the tournament and with two games remaining, Tamim has been advised by Bangladesh Cricket Board chief physician Debashish Chowdhury to rest and recover ahead of the home series against England starting next month.

"As far as I know till today, I have not heard about any new injury of Tamim Iqbal. Since he had recovered from his previous back strain and groin issues, our advice to him was that if he wasn't chasing any milestones in the last two games of the BPL, he should take rest to recover ahead of the England series," he told The Daily Star on Tuesday.

"He will meet me tomorrow and after examining him, we can talk about the details," he added.

Tamim missed out on the last home series against India due to a back injury but the BCB is confident that he will be able to recover before the England series.

Meanwhile, pacer Taskin Ahmed was also rested after he suffered a hamstring injury playing for Dhaka Dominators in the BPL but the speedster is also set to recover in time for the England series.
