Have no confidence in BCL probe committee: Phulpori
Phulpori, the first-year student of Kushtia's Islamic University who was tortured by two BCL female leaders, today declined to visit the university to give her statement to a BCL probe committee citing "security reasons".
After receiving the call yesterday from the committee formed to investigate the incident, Phulpori reached out to the proctor, expressing her concerns over safety.
"He reassured me about my safety on campus. But will I be safe on the 75km journey to the university from my home?" she told The Daily Star today.
"I have no confidence in this inquiry committee," she added, "They have not done anything after so many days. How can I trust them?"
"The investigation committee was formed soon after the incident," Boni Amin, vice president of IU unit of BCL, and one of the four members of the committee, told The Daily Star.
"We have already taken the statements from the accused female BCL activists and others involved. We will take Phulpori's statement over the phone," said Amin.
"The investigation is to be completed within five working days. I hope the incident will be judged fairly and no one will be favoured," Amin added.
"Chattra League Central Committee President Saddam Hussain also called me and assured that I will get justice. I expect justice," Phulpori told The Daily Star.
Phulpori filed a complaint on February 14, 2023, accusing two Chhatra League leaders, Sanjida Chowdhury and Tabassum Islam, of physically torturing her for staying in a dormitory without informing them.
