'We are not sloggers'

An attacking brand of cricket across all formats has proved the new normal for England over the past few years, with that mindset bringing them great success, and, according to all-rounder Moeen Ali, the world champions of the white ball formats will continue to show that intent despite the challenging conditions in Mirpur when the visitors take on Bangladesh in the first of the three-match ODI series at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday.

"Yeah, for sure. We've done it all around the world. It's a different challenge and probably a different sort of plan, but the mindset is always the same. If somebody bowls badly on any sort of surface, you try and put them away. So yeah, we're confident, we have the players to play well here," Moeen told the media ahead of the first ODI on Tuesday.

However, the 35-year-old emphasised that continuing with an attacking mindset did not mean that the team would shy away from making adjustments to adapt their brand to the slow and low Mirpur surface.

"We're not sloggers. Our team is generally good at playing that sort of aggressive cricket but they play proper cricket shots a lot of the time. The guys do sometimes take the time to play the way they play but it has become natural. I think it's more about the confidence of playing that way and not being afraid to get out playing a certain way," he added.

Bangladesh have remained unbeaten in their last twelve ODI series at home since a series defeat to England in 2016. On the other hand, the visitors are under some pressure after winning just one of their last five ODI series.

Jos Buttler and Co. will have to handle the pressure of the passionate Tigers crowd, who regularly turn up in numbers, but Moeen informed that the visitors were looking forward to playing in front of a capacity crowd.

"Actually that's the one thing we're really looking forward to. We've talked about how good the crowd is here; how loud they are. I don't think it builds any pressure in any way. I think it's just amazing. It's always amazing to play in front of large crowds. A lot of our players play IPL and it's probably the number one place in terms of noise and things like that. We've played some big games all over the world, so, yeah, that sort of thing doesn't really put pressure. If anything, it's more exciting to play in front of a huge crowd that make a lot of noise," said Moeen.
