Bangladesh outplayed us and deserved victory: Buttler

England's World Cup-winning skipper Jos Buttler admitted that his side were 'outplayed' in the three-match T20I series, in which the visitors were whitewashed by hosts Bangladesh.

Asked if he had anticipated such an outcome to the series, Buttler said: "No, not at all [ we did not anticipate this result]. It is really disappointing to lose the series, but obviously, congratulations to the Bangladesh team. They outplayed us and deserved the victory."

The Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh completed a series sweep when they registered a 16-run victory in the final T20I at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. This was also the first time that England have been whitewashed in a series since losing 3-0 to Australia in 2014.

The England skipper held him responsible for the loss, saying it was disappointing to get run out during a crucial phase of the game. England were cruising towards the 159-run target with already 100 on the board for the loss of one wicket after 13 overs. But Mustafizur began the 14th over by removing a well-set Dawid Malan on 53 before Buttler was caught short of the ground the very next ball, courtesy of a brilliant direct throw from Mehedi Hasan Miraz from the point.

"Losing two wickets in two balls is really poor. I am really disappointed in myself for not diving and making my ground. You should be fully committed to completing the run, so I was disappointed and it potentially cost us the game," Buttler rued the mistake.
