The prices of poultry chickens might not come down in the next six to seven months, Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said today.

The prices of poultry chickens might not come down in the next six to seven months, Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said today.

"Due to the inadequate supply in the market, the prices are still high, which is not expected," he said while addressing the opening session of the three-day "12th International Poultry Show-2023" in Dhaka.

He said the price of poultry chicken would not come down soon. The country would have to wait at least six to seven months to get the chickens in lower prices, Razzaque said.

The World Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh Branch and the Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council organised the event at the International Convention City Bashundhara.

Razzaque said the prices of poultry will not increase during the upcoming Ramadan.

"The prices have already increased. This is not a good thing."

According to data from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, the price of per kilogramme poultry chicken was around Tk 240 to Tk 250.

Regarding the reason behind the price hike, the minister said the prices of poultry chicken have increased due to the abnormal increase in food prices in the country and the international market.

"Farmers have been suffering for a long time due to low price. Many of them shut their productions. As a result, there is a shortage of supply in the market."

He, however, hoped that new farmers would come back to production soon and the production would increase again, which may take six to seven months.
