Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das made a watchful start to their innings under slightly difficult conditions in the second ODI against Ireland at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

The hosts, who won the first match of the three-match series by a record 183 runs, however, lost Tamim Iqbal to a run-out for 23 off the last ball of the 10th over. Bangladesh had reached 42 with Liton batting on 18.

Conditions were testing for the openers as the morning shower, coupled with the overcast conditions and the green pitch, helped the seamers get a lot of swing and bounce in the air and off the surface.

The first four overs yielded only five runs but both openers started to open up their shoulders as the early shine went off the cherry. Tamim hit two boundaries off Mark Adair in consecutive overs before Liton took Graham Hume for a six and a four of consecutive deliveries.

Skipper Tamim would have dearly loved to get some runs under his belt after enduring a lean patch this year, starting with the three-match series against England. Today he turned 34. However, before being run-out, the cricketer from Chattogram became the first Bangladeshi and 40th overall to reach 15,000 international runs during his innings.
