Mushy thanks ‘gentleman’ Tamim after record ton

Mushfiqur Rahim, who registered the fastest hundred by a Bangladeshi against Ireland in the second ODI on Monday, thanked skipper Tamim Iqbal through a social media post after the match.

The experienced wicketkeeper-batter reached his century off just 60 balls in Sylhet and, during the course of his innings, also became the third Bangladeshi to reach 7,000 ODI runs after Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim.

Tamim also reached a personal milestone, becoming the first Bangladeshi to reach 15,000 runs across the formats in international cricket, before being dismissed for 23 in the second ODI.

Mushfiqur wrote on Facebook: "Would like to thank Tamim today for all the support he has given me on and off the field. This gentleman has played a big role in whatever little I have achieved so far. 15,000-plus international runs and the best batter in Bangladesh in my eyes. Thanks for everything buddy."

Mushfiqur's blistering hundred, alongside scores in the seventies from Liton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto, helped Bangladesh post their highest ODI total of 349 for six.

However, the game was washed out by rain.

In the first game of the series, the Tigers had posted their then-highest ODI total of 338 for eight, eventually registering their biggest win in terms of runs.
