The Weeknd named world’s ‘Most Popular Artist’
The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye has been named as the Most Popular Artist in the world according to Guinness World Records. The organisation offered the prestigious title to him on March 20, based on the Spotify streaming data of the Canadian artiste.
The 33-year-old singer has also set another record of being the First Artist to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify. He currently has almost 30 million more monthly listeners than the second-place holder, Miley Cyrus (82.4 million).
Other artists who trail The Weeknd include Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80. 2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million) and Ed Sheeran (77.5 million).
Moreover, The Weeknd's song "Blinding Lights" is currently the most streamed song on the Spotify platform of all time, standing at 3.47 billion listens until March 20, when the artiste was bestowed the title.
