48 units engaged as fire still rages after 5 hours
A massive fire broke out at Bangabazar market in the capital this morning.
Forty-eight units of fire service are working to control the fire.
Confirming the matter, Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defense control room, said the fire was reported at Bangabazar market at 6:10am.
The cause of the fire could not be known immediately, he said, adding that no casualties have been reported so far.
The firefighters were obtaining water from the pond of nearby Shahidullah Hall at Dhaka University as the firefighters ran out of water, fire officials said around 8:50am.
Black smoke engulfed the area, hampering the firefighting operations, they added.

Firefighting units of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and BGB reached the spot to assist the fire service.
According to eyewitnesses, owners and employees of the market's shops rushed to the spot after hearing the news of the fire.
Many were seen removing goods from their stores and moving them to a secure location.
