The fire that originated in a section of Bangabazar Shopping Complex this morning has spread to nearby markets.

Fire officials said the fire originated around 6:10am and 47 firefighting units are trying to douse it.

But witnesses said the raging fire has started spreading to nearby markets too, witnesses said.

"Fire has spread to at least six markets," said BM Habib, office secretary of Bangabazar Shopping Complex Shop Owners Association.

Four markets -- Mohanagar Complex, Adarsha Market, Gulistan Market and Bangabazar Market -- are under the shopping complex. Most of the shops are gutted, he said.

Besides, fire spread to nearby Annexco Tower and Islamia Market. Fire officials are now trying to douse the fire there, witnesses said.
