Mrittunjoy hoping for all-round impact
A day after he received his maiden call-up to the national team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland, all eyes were on left-arm seamer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, taking part in the Dhaka Premier League for Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club in Mirpur yesterday.
Surprisingly, the pacer also bowled some left-arm spin as Jamal gunned down high-flying Abahani by four wickets, even mixing up his pace and spin during the same over.
"Actually, the idea was to bowl with a short run-up and look to surprise the batter since the pitch was favouring the spinners. Mainly it was my captain [Nurul Hasan] Sohan's idea," said Mrittunjoy.
The 21-year-old will be looking to make an impact as an all-rounder in the national set-up, where there are two established left-arm seamers in the form of Mustafizur Rahman and Shoriful Islam.
"Since I am in the 15-member squad, I will try to give my best and make it to the playing eleven. As I have the advantage in terms of batting, it will be a great opportunity for me to contribute as an all-rounder."
