‘Sataao’ to screen at Rangpur Shilpakala Academy

Debutant filmmaker Khandaker Sumon's directorial film, "Saatao," will be screening at Shilpakala Academy in Rangpur today and tomorrow. The film was made in the regional language of Rangpur. 

 

Debutant filmmaker Khandaker Sumon's directorial film, "Saatao," will be screening at Shilpakala Academy in Rangpur today and tomorrow. The film was made in the regional language of Rangpur. 

There will be four shows at 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm respectively. 

The crowd-funded movie, "Saatao" is based on the lives of the marginalised community. Aynun Putul and Fazlul Haque play pivotal roles in the movie. The film was released on January 27. "Saatao" also won the Gautam Buddha Award under the World Panorama category at the 6th Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF). 

Sometimes during the Bengali 'Kartik' month, there are storms and rains for seven consecutive days in the northern parts of the country. As it becomes difficult to go out at that time, it makes life hard for the marginalised people who live there. In the local language of Rangpur, this period is called Saatao, and the film is based on the struggles and lives of the people. 

Besides directing the movie, Khandaker Sumon also wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogue for "Saatao". The movie also stars Sabera Yasmin, Tashmita Shimu, Mitu Sarkar, among others.
