Wind speed reaches 121 kmph in St Martin's

The wind speed in St Martin's Island reached a maximum of 121 kilometres per hour at 2:00pm today as Cyclone Mocha was moving over the northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas in a north-northeastwards direction.

Around 1:00pm, Bangladesh's only coral island located south of Teknaf experienced winds of 100 kmph, Nazmul Haque, meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department, told The Daily Star.

In Teknaf, the country's southernmost area, the wind speed was 115 kmph at 2:20pm, he said.
