2 arrested for entering 'secret voting area', influencing voting
Two people were arrested for influencing voting by entering the "secret voting area" at two different centres during the Gazipur City Corporation polls.
They are: Riadul Islam Riaz and Abu Taher Siddique.
A mobile court later sentenced Taher to three days' imprisonment, an election commissioner said.
The development came after Election Commission officials, who are monitoring the voting through CCTV from the commission's Agargaon office, ordered local authorities to arrest them.
Taher entered the secret voting area, a cordoned off area inside polling booths where voters cast their votes in private, of the Ummul Qura Hifz Madrasah centre repeatedly and tried to influence the voting.
The mobile court sentenced him to three days in jail, said Abdul Latif, the centre's presiding officer.
