The Mohammad Nuruzzaman directorial film, "Aam Kathaler Chhuti", has been awarded at the 16th edition of the Cheboksary International Film Festival. The film bagged the Special Jury Award at the event. This is the director's debut directorial feature film.
The festival kicked off on May 26, and closed its curtain yesterday (June 1). "Aam Kathaler Chhuti" was selected in the main competition section of the festival.
Nuruzzaman informed the media from Russia that the experience of visiting the festival with his debut film has been great. He also shared how everything from walking on the red carpet on the first day to the excitement he witnessed from the general audience, was worth more to him than any award.
The film, which has been titled "Summer Holiday" in English, had two screenings at the festival. After the screening, the audience were curious about the film and they had a discussion session after the film concluded.
"Aam Kathaler Chhuti" is an adaptation of a short story by Shorif Uddin Shobuj. Besides directing the film, Nuruzzaman also produced, wrote the screenplay, dialogues and designed the sound of the film himself.
The plot surrounds the experience of an 8-year-old boy, living in the city, who goes on a summer vacation to the village and enjoys the little things in his surroundings, while also making new friends. It will also be a walk down the memory lane for people who grew up in the 80s and late 90s.
Last year, "Aam Kathaler Chhuti" had its international premiere at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival held in Jakarta, Indonesia from November 26 to December 3, with another screening of the film in the Asian Perspective section. The festival committee and the audience there also appreciated the film.
The film received clearance from the Censor Board in February, where the members of the Censor Committee became very nostalgic during the screening. The members of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board also praised the film as an exceptional and necessary work for the current time.
The film features Leon, Zubair, Arif, Halima, and Tanzil in the lead roles. Juboraj Shamim, the director of the film "Adim" assisted the film, which is slated to hit the theatres on July 21.
