One held over attack on IAB mayor candidate in Barishal

Police have detained a man in connection with yesterday's attack on Islami Andolan Bangladesh mayoral candidate Muft Syed Faizul Karim while he was visiting a Barishal City Corporation polling centre.

Kotwali police last night detained Mainul Islam Swapan, a resident of Chaumatha area of Ward 22 of the city for his alleged involvement in the attack.

According to a press conference of Barishal Metropolitan Police, Faizul Karim verbally complained to the BMP Commissioner's office that he was attacked while visiting "Sabera Khatun Girls Secondary School" in Ward 87 of the city.

Following Faizul's verbal complaint, Swapan was detained for his involvement in the incident as found in the initial investigation, police officials said.
