Soumya, Mahedi named in Bangladesh squad for Emerging Asia Cup
Soumya Sarker and Sheikh Mahedi were included in the Bangladesh squad heading for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023 next month in Sri Lanka.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 16-member squad on Monday that also included Zakir Hasan and Mahmudul Hasan Joy. Both played in the one-off Test against Afghanistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium earlier this week.
Saif Hasan will lead the side, while Zakir will be his deputy
Naim Sheikh, who was recalled in the Tigers ODI side for the upcoming Afghanistan series in July, was also named in the side alongside several youngsters like Akbar Ali, and Parvez Hossain Emon.
Bangladesh A will take on Sri Lanka A in their opening game of the tournament on July 14. Afghanistan A and Oman are also in the same group. Group B consists of Pakistan A, India A, Nepal and the UAE.
Bangladesh will take on Oman and Afghanistan in their next two group games on July 16 and 18 respectively. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals scheduled on July 21, with the final slated to be on July 23.
