When Shah Rukh Khan's blockbuster "Pathaan" was released on May 12, many thought that it would single-handedly rejuvenate Bangladeshi halls, but even though the film performed well in multiplexes, the single-screen performance of the film left a lot to be desired.

The much-anticipated release of a Hindi film was not nearly the revolution that many thought it would be, much to the chagrin of any well-wishers of the Bangladeshi film industry.

However, Bangladeshi talent has stepped up to bring an exciting line-up for Eid-ul-Azha this year, producing a diverse line-up of films likely to trigger the palates of any type of filmgoer.

Leading the race this festive season will be Shakib Khan starrer "Priyotoma", directed by Himel Ashraf. Owing to the sheer effort that has gone into the promotion and presentation of the film, including Shakib's stellar look as both a dashing stud and an 80-year-old man. Starring opposite Shakib will be India's Idhika Paul.

Raihan Rafi's "Shurongo", which will mark the silver-screen debut of television superstar Afran Nisho, is not far behind in terms of hype. Featuring Nisho and Tama Mirza, it is going to be a must watch for both the actors' talent and Raihan Rafi's track record.

"Antarjal" is Bangladesh's first cyber-thriller, helmed by Dipankar Dipon. However, the team announced that due to technical difficulties, the film will not come out this Eid. The multi-starrer will feature Bidya Sinha Mim, Siam Ahmed, ABM Sumon and Sunerah Binte Kamal, among others.

A dark horse for this festival is Chayanika Chowdhury's "Prohelika", featuring a return from the brilliant Mahfuz Ahmed, opposite Bubly. The chemistry between the two actors went viral, as the two threw light-hearted jabs at each other at a press conference.

Bubly's other venture on the occasion is "Casino", directed by Saikat Nasir. Starring opposite Nirab Hossain, the film might defy expectations and become a sleeper hit this year.

Apu Biswas looks to make her big on-screen return with "Laal Shari", directed by Bandhan Biswas. The actress, who is also the producer for the film, is very confident about her outing this time. Symon Sadik will pair opposite her this time.

Regardless of what films you decide to watch at theatres, there is bound to be something that suits everyone's tastes. If the industry can pull of anything near last Eid-ul-Azha, it will be beneficial for all artistes, regardless of if their films hit halls this festival.
