Plot afoot to create chaos ahead of polls: Quader
Road, Transport, and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that attempts are being made to plunge the country in turmoil ahead of the upcoming election.
"It is very unfortunate that there is a conspiracy aimed at escalating tensions in the electoral arena, fueled by unfounded rumours and baseless conspiracies. It has been deliberately instigated and perpetuated by those who seek to undermine the process," Quader said.
He made these remarks before attending a joint meeting of the presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka metropolitan north and south units, and associate bodies, in the presence of Awami League's presidium members at the party's central office on Bangabandhu Avenue this morning.
He added that the official announcement regarding the schedule for the national election will be made within the next three-four months.
"However, even at this very moment, we witness the relentless efforts of parties such as BNP and their allies in spreading malicious rumours and indulging in conspiratorial activities".
He went on to say, "They're not reaching out to voters; they're reaching out to foreigners. They are banking on the possibility that a foreign representative will come and impose sanctions, while they eagerly lodge complaints with them."
"Some people think that the election means fake votes, and capturing the polling stations. However, these misleading claims were not proved in the recently conducted elections. In fact, we witnessed a glimmer of hope during the elections in Bangladesh," he added.
Quader, also the general secretary of the ruling AL, highlighted his government's commitment to strengthen the Election Commission and the electoral system.
He added that "We firmly believe that the forthcoming national election will mirror the peaceful environment in which city corporation elections were held. The government will refrain from interference, and Sheikh Hasina's administration will carry out its regular duties. The Election Commission will be responsible for overseeing the electoral process."
