Satyajit’s "Charulata" star Madhabi Mukherjee expected to recover soon
Veteran Bengali actress Madhabi Mukherjee, known for her iconic role in Satyajit Ray's film "Charulata," is currently in stable condition after being hospitalised for advanced Vasculitic Dermatitis, according to Indian media.
The 81-year-old actress was admitted to Woodlands Multi-speciality Hospital in Kolkata on June 21. As a hypertensive and diabetic patient, her health has been closely monitored. According to reports, she is now "hemodynamically stable," and her blood sugar levels are under control.
Madhabi Mukherjee, who has been one of the favourites of renowned filmmaker Satyajit Ray, has received critical acclaim for her performances in various Bengali films, including "Charulata." She has worked alongside stalwarts of Bengali cinema such as Soumitra Chatterjee and Uttam Kumar. She was awarded the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role in "Dibratrir Kabbo."
Her notable films include Mrinal Sen's "Baishey Srabon," Ritwik Ghatak's "Subornorekha," as well as Ray's "Mohanagar" and "Kapurush."
The medical team, led by general medicine specialist Biswajit Ghoahdastidar, is closely monitoring her condition, and she is expected to be discharged soon, as per the reports.
