The majority of dengue patients who were admitted to different hospitals in Dhaka are from 11 areas of Dhaka city.

Among these areas, six are located in Dhaka South City Corporation, while the remaining five are under the jurisdiction of Dhaka North City Corporation, said officials at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) at an online briefing today.

Among the areas, Jatrabari, Mugda, Kadamtali, Jurain, Dhanmondi and Basabo are in DSCC while Uttara, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Tejgaon, and Badda are in DNCC.

In Bangladesh, the number of dengue cases usually starts rising in June and reaches its peak in August or September and also in July and November. However, this year it starts rising since May.

The two city corporations have been requested to increase anti-mosquito activities in these areas to tackle dengue.

A total of 30,685 people have been affected by dengue since January this year. Among them, 18,885 in Dhaka and 11,800 outside it, the DGHS official said.

Eleven more deaths were reported from dengue DGHS yesterday, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 167 this year.

The July death toll alone rose to 120, smashing the previous highest for deaths from dengue in a single month.
