Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader did not find anything wrong in circulating photos and videos of senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy having lunch at the office of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police during his detention on Saturday.

"This is the duty of the detectives ... It was not done by political persons. Biplab or Arafat did not do it," Quader, the road transport and bridges minister, told reporters at a "views exchange meeting" at his Secretariat office.

AL leaders Biplab Barua and Mohammad A Arafat were present at the programme.

"The truth was revealed here. I don't find any problem here. He [Gayeshwar] has had a meal of Rui fish," Quader said replying to a question.

"Why had he eaten the meal ...Was he that hungry? What type of political leader is he? There were times when we didn't have a meal three days in a row," he said.

Spreading videos of lunch is shameful: Gayeshwar

Quader came up with the remark a day after Gayeshwar said the video and pictures of his lunch at the DB office were circulated to mislead people. Spreading videos and photos of the incident on social media was a low-taste joke and a very shameful and hateful act, he said.

A video containing Gayeshwar having lunch at the DB office with its chief Harun-Or-Rashid went viral on Saturday. The BNP leader was picked up from Dholaikhal during a clash between police and BNP activists and brought to the DB office.

Later, he was dropped off in front of his office.
