The government cannot avoid responsibility for its failure to control the dengue situation in the country, said Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader today.

In a statement, Quader, also the deputy leader of the opposition in parliament, blamed the two city corporations for the spread of dengue. He said the government should held accountable those responsible for the failure to control the outbreak.

The government must ensure proper dengue testing and treatment in all hospitals and medical centers in the country, he demanded.

Highlighting the dire conditions in hospitals, he also said, "There are no available beds at hospitals. Dengue patients are being forced to receive medical treatment in balconies, corridors, and even under the stairs."

He also said the hospital premises are overcrowded, making it nearly impossible for patients to move freely.

"Moreover, the shortage of manpower and insufficient government support is hindering the efforts of healthcare professionals to provide treatment," GM Quader also said.

Quader expressed his concern about the escalating number of cases and deaths reported daily as the dengue situation worsening day by day.

At least 313 people have died so far this year in the country and nearly 66,732 infected, making this the deadliest year since the first recorded epidemic in 2000.

However, the actual number of infections and deaths might be higher, added the JP chairman.
