Meta to launch desktop version of Threads soon: reports
Meta Platforms, the company behind Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram, is planning on releasing a desktop version of their newest text-based app Threads, as per a report from The Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, while nothing definite has been stated by Meta officials yet, Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, recently stated on Threads that Meta is close to releasing a web version of Threads.
"Desktop web will happen long before foldable support. We're close on web and not working on foldables," stated Mosseri when a Threads user asked him about the possibility of bringing desktop support to Threads.
Currently, Threads is only usable via the official iOS and Android apps. Clicking on 'threads.net' on a desktop leads to a QR code which asks the user to download the app.
Since its official release on July 5 this year, Threads was considered a direct competitor to Elon Musk's X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. According to an earlier report by Forbes, Threads gained 100 million users within 5 days of launch. However, user activity has fallen since then - with websites such as SensorTower and SimilarWeb reporting that daily active users had dropped as much as 20% after the first 5 days of the app's release.
