Bangladeshi filmmakers get a shot to compete at Oscars
In a promising development of Bangladesh's film industry, the Oscar Bangladesh Committee has invited the country's filmmakers to submit their works to compete at the upcoming 96th Academy awards. The shortlisted films will contend for recognition in the Best International Feature Film, previously known as Best Foreign Language Film category.
To qualify for this prestigious competition, a Bangladeshi film must meet specific criteria. It must be a full-length production, include English subtitles, and have enjoyed a seven-day run in theaters. Additionally, the film's release must fall between December 1, 2022, and October 31.
Aspiring filmmakers and producers eager to participate are requested to collect the submission forms and comprehensive guidelines from the offices of Ashirbad Cholochitro, located at 7/9, Eastern Commercial Complex, 73 Kakrail in the capital. Submissions must be made by 5 pm on September 5.
To oversee the selection process, an eight-member committee has been formed with film personality Syed Salahuddin Zaki as the chairman. The committee is an initiative of the Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies, with the intent of nominating Bangladeshi films for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars.
The highly anticipated 96th Oscars ceremony will be hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This illustrious event is scheduled for March 10, 2024, and will take place at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. Awards will be presented in a total of 24 distinguished categories, celebrating the finest achievements in global cinema.
