Three Bangladeshis in Big Bash draft

Three Bangladeshi cricketers enlisted their names on the 13th edition of the Big Bash T20 League players draft, with the league scheduled to begin on December 7.

Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, young pacer Ripon Mondol and women's team pacer Jahanara Alam registered their names for the draft for franchise league's players draft.

Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday revealed the names of 376 male cricketers from 29 countries for the men's draft, while there were 122 women cricketers in women's draft. The players draft for both the men's and women's Big Bash will take place on Sunday.

Ripon, who played just two T20 games, had registered his name in the previous edition of the draft as well alongside pacers Al Amin Hossain and Shafiul Islam, but none of the teams showed interest to pick any of them.

Taijul, on the other hand, picked up 76 wickets in 93 T20s but is yet to feature in any foreign franchise league. Jahanara, however, has been a regular face in the Fairbreak Invitational T20 League in Hong Kong while also playing in Women's T20 Challenge Velocity in India in 2020.

Shakib Al Hasan remains the only Bangladeshi cricketer to feature in the Big Bash league, his stint in 2014 saw him play two games for Adelaide Strikers and four matches for Melbourne Renegades in 2015.

The upcoming edition of the Big Bash is scheduled to run from December 7 to January 24 next year. The Bangladesh Premier League is also expected to take place between January 6 and February 17 next year.
