Tigers to rely on ‘mind games’ for success against Kiwis

With rain denying Bangladeshi cricketers from practising ahead of the first of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, stand-in skipper Liton Das informed that they might need to play mind games in order to get success against the Kiwis.

"Since we didn't get the opportunity to work (due to rain), we have to rely on the mental aspect and play the mind game. Let's see if we get success. We were unable to work on our tactics as we couldn't train in the last couple of days. I don't know yet how much we could practise [today] and maybe we have to play mind games. It's a mental game and they have got some quality spinners in the side," Liton, who will lead the Tigers in the absence of regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan, said during the pre-match press conference in Mirpur on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old opener also mentioned that the most important thing for him and his side will be to win matches.

"Since I have taken the responsibility, as the captain, my first aim would be to win matches and everyone has the same goal. At the end of the day, there is no value if a player scores a hundred or takes five wickets but the team eventually loses.

"Every player wants to perform but maybe one or two players can click in a game. Everyone can't perform in the same game and it will happen in the future as well. Everyone will try and if luck permits, he will do well. But our main aim will be to win matches," he said.

The stylish right-hander, who has been going through a lean patch in recent times, also spoke about his batting and informed that he is trying to find out ways to return to form with the bat.
