'It was not a natural death': Boney Kapoor opens up about Sridevi's tragic passing

In a candid interview, Boney Kapoor, the renowned film producer and husband to the late actress Sridevi, has shed light on the circumstances surrounding her tragic demise in February 2018. For the first time, Kapoor spoke about the events leading up to her death and the pressures she experienced to maintain her on-screen appearance.

Sridevi was found dead in a Dubai hotel bathtub, and the reason for her death was accidental drowning. This revelation left fans perplexed, leading to various conspiracy theories. Yet her family remained silent in the face of mounting speculation.

In the interview with New Indian, Boney Kapoor disclosed that Sridevi had been following a strict crash diet. He revealed, "She often used to starve, she wanted to look good. She wanted to make sure she was in good shape so that, on-screen, she looked good. From the time she was married to me, she had blackouts on a couple of occasions, and the doctor kept on saying she had a low BP issue."

Reflecting on the initial scrutiny surrounding her death, Kapoor shared, "It was not a natural death; it was an accidental death. I had decided not to speak about it because we had spoken about it for almost 24 or 48 hours together when I was being investigated and interrogated. In fact, the officers said we had to go through this because there was a lot of pressure from the Indian media. And they discovered there was no foul play. I went through all the tests, including lie detector tests and all those things. And then, of course, the report that came clearly stated it was accidental."

Additionally, Kapoor mentioned that actor Nagarjuna, who visited their home to offer condolences after her demise, recounted that Sridevi had previously fainted due to crash dieting. Kapoor said, "It was unfortunate. Nagarjuna told me that during one of her movies, she was again on a crash diet, which was how she fell in the bathroom and broke her teeth."

Sridevi's untimely demise occurred on February 28, 2018, in Dubai, leaving an unforgettable mark on the world of cinema and her countless admirers.
