ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

‘See you World Champions England!’

“In this team Miraz is the biggest asset,” Mashrafe further wrote, adding that Bangladesh’s World Cup dream will depend on the pace unit.

‘See you World Champions England!’

Mehedi Hasan Miraz was the standout performer as the all-rounder picked up three wickets, conceding just 25 runs from his nine overs and then struck his third ODI half-century to set up Bangladesh's six-wicket victory against Afghanistan, their biggest win in the mega event in terms of balls in hand, in their opening fixture of the ICC World Cup on Saturday, October 7, 2023. Mashrafe Bin Mortaza expressed his satisfaction over Bangladesh's performances against Afghanistan in their opening game of the ICC World Cup in Dharamsala yesterday.

"Brilliant start," the former Bangladesh captain stated on his Facebook post to begin with, where he appreciated captain Shakib Al Hasan, all-rounder Mehedi Hasan Miraz and Nazmul Hossain Shanto.

"There was no alternative than to win. Afghanistan made a brilliant start but, as usual, Shakib brought Bangladesh back to the match. In the middle, Miraz's tight bowling along with the combination of pace bowling, kept the match well within grasp.

"From bowling rotation to field placing, alongside his own bowling, Shakib had proved how proactive he was. He always came up with his best when he was under pressure."

"In this team Miraz is the biggest asset," Mashrafe further wrote, adding that Bangladesh's World Cup dream will depend on the pace unit.

Mashrafe, who led the Tigers in the 2019 World Cup in England, praised the good approach of openers, despite the fact that they could not score enough runs.

The recently turned 40-year-old also reminded that Shanto is now more matured and in a good form. "He took time to finish the match, which was required for the day."

"Congratulations Bangladesh!"

Mashrafe ended his post with a positive note. He wrote: "See you World Champions England!"

Bangladesh will play their second match against England on October 10 at the same venue.
