Hasina reaches Sylhet to start AL’s polls campaign
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has reached Sylhet where she is set to flag off the party's electioneering for the Januar 7 national election today.
The AL president is scheduled to offer prayers at Hazrat Shahjalal's Mazar followed by Hazrat Shah Paran's Mazar.
A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the premier landed at Sylhet Osmani Airport around 11:33am.
According to party sources, after visiting the shrine, she will stay at the Circuit House. Later, the prime minister will address a public meeting at Alia Madrasa Maidan in the city at 3:00pm.
AL central leaders are accompanying the Prime Minister during her visit to Sylhet.
People from different parts of Sylhet division have started coming to the city since morning to join the rally.
The stage has been prepared at the venue for at least 400 guests.
The president and secretary of Sylhet district and metropolitan Awami League, public representatives from the district, upazilas and municipalities and the incumbent lawmaker candidates will also share the stage with the prime minister.
The independent candidates of Awami League will also join the leaders on the stage.
The highest security measures have been taken all through Sylhet centring her visit.
More than 4,000 police personnel, as well as other security personnel, have been deployed in the city, said Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Commissioner Zakir Hossain Khan.
