Fishermen set up zero-mesh nets in the Shibsa river in Khulna’s Paikgachha upazila to trap shrimp fries during high tides. Setting up such enclosures in waterbodies are illegal as the eggs and fries of all aquatic animals get trapped and killed, threatening the river’s marine life. People queue up in front of an OMS truck on Asad Avenue in the capital’s Mohammadpur yesterday morning to purchase subsidised wheat and rice. Though the truck arrives around 11:00am, the wait starts at dawn. While some leave content after purchasing 5kg of rice and wheat for Tk 270, many have to return empty-handed.
