T20 World Cup: Get to know the captains via interesting facts
The ninth edition of the ICC men's T20 World Cup kicks off on June 2 [Bangladesh time], with Canada facing one of the hosts the USA in Dallas. As the cricketing world gears up for another thrilling event, let's delve into some interesting facts about the captains of the 20 participants -- this time, focusing on South Africa's Aiden Markram.
AIDEN MARKRAM
Aiden Markram is set to appear in his third ICC T20 World Cup this year, first time as captain, in the USA and the West Indies where he will be leading a strong squad with a point to prove.
The dynamic right-hander batter was consistent in his previous two campaigns in the tournament but has never really set the tournament alight, with his highest score in the competition being just 52.
The 29-year-old is the only South African captain to win an ICC tournament at any level, when he led his team to the ICC Under-19 World Cup trophy back in 2014.
Now, he will be eyeing to break the duck for South Africa at the senior level as skipper. With explosive batters like Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller in the mix and an imposing bowling lineup with the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj, Markram has all the resources required to take his team all the way.
