Shoriful cuts LPL stint short due to sickness
Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam returned home from Sri Lanka on Thursday due to illness and won't be taking part in the knockout phase of the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL).
"I've been sick for a few days. That's why I decided to return home," Shoriful told The Daily Star over the phone after returning to Bangladesh.
Shoriful, who represented Kandy Falcons in the ongoing season, played five matches for his side where he took four wickets at an economy of 11.61 and averaged 37.75.
He was dropped from the side during Kandy's last league game against Dambulla Sixers on July 14 which they went on to win by 54 runs and later they also qualified for the playoffs of the meet.
Kandy is scheduled to face Colombo Strikers in the eliminator at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo tonight at 08:00 pm Bangladesh time.
Meanwhile, Shoriful also informed that if he gets well, he will fly to Canada on July 23 to feature in the Global T20 Canada, scheduled to start on July 25.
The 23-year-old will represent Bangla Tigers Mississauga alongside Shakib Al Hasan while Mohammad Saifuddin and Rishad Hossain will play for Montreal Tigers and Toronto Nationals respectively.
