PCB set to replace Gillespie with Aqib Javed as head coach
In its latest disorganisation of events, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are set to remove current national team head coach Jason Gillespie and replace the Australian with former Pakistan pacer Aqib Javed, ESPNcricinfo reported today.
Aaqib was recently appointed convenor of the men's cricket selection committee but the PCB has reportedly decided to give the 52-year-old the responsibility of head coach until the Champions Trophy next year.
Pakistan are currently playing a T20I three-match series in Australia and the third and final match tomorrow in Bellerive is believed to be Gillespie's last match in charge of the side, the report read.
Gillespie is Pakistan's Test coach and has been given the role of the white-ball side on an interim basis. The 49-year-old's tumultuous term started with a crushing 2-0 Test series defeat against Bangladesh at home followed by a 2-1 win in a three-match Test series against England at home – Pakistan's first Test series win in nearly four years.
Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe after the Australia series and will play three ODIs and as many T2OIs against The Chevrons. The ODIs will be on November 24,26, and 28 followed by the three T20Is on December 1,3, and 5 after which they will play an all-format series in South Africa.
Their next engagement is a two-Test series against the West Indies at the end of January, and their only white-ball games before the Champions Trophy will be in a short tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand in February.
