Illegal soil extraction: 9 dump trucks seized in Kapasia; 3 fined

At least nine dump trucks have been seized for illegally extracting soil in Gazipur's Kapasia.

Three people have been fined for their alleged involvement in the illegal act, said Kapasia Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Nurul Amin, who conducted the mobile court in the Amraid and Raniganj areas of the upazila at 4:00pm today.

The mobile court fined a total of Tk 1.10 lakh from three soil traders -- Nazmul Ahsan, 40, Parvez Mia, 35, and Rakib Mia, 28 -- for illegally extracting soil without permission.

Based on a tip-off, the AC (land) went to the spot and caught them red-handed. The three were fined under the Balumahal and Soil Management Act, 2010 and the Environment Protection Act, 2010.

Nurul Amin told The Daily Star that such drives will continue regularly.
