Microsoft halts Windows 11 updates due to Ubisoft game crashes
Microsoft has stopped offering updates to Windows 11 version 24H2 on PCs running certain Ubisoft games after users reported repeated crashes, according to a recent report by Bleeping Computer.
The issue, confirmed by Microsoft, has led to a "compatibility hold" on the update. In a statement the company said it is working closely with Ubisoft to resolve the problem. In the interim, Microsoft has advised users to avoid manually installing the 24H2 update.
The crashes, which occur during various stages of gameplay such as startup, loading screens, or active play, can result in unresponsive games or black screens. Games impacted by the update include Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Assassin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Star Wars Outlaws, and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.
Ubisoft has rolled out a temporary hotfix for Star Wars Outlaws to address some of the crashing issues, but Microsoft has warned that performance problems may persist.
