‘Room Number 2011’ to premiere honouring Abrar Fahad’s memory
A short film titled "Room Number 2011", created in memory of Abrar Fahad, is set to premiere at Jahangirnagar University on December 3. The film first debuted on November 30 in the United States.
Spearheaded by Sheikh Jisan Ahmed, a student of Jahangirnagar University, the project brought together nearly a hundred students who participated as actors.
This marks Jisan's first venture into fiction filmmaking, though he has previously gained recognition for recreating iconic scenes from popular films like "Monpura" and "3 Idiots".
The film draws inspiration from the tragic events surrounding Abrar Fahad, a second-year Electrical Engineering student at the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
On October 7, 2019, Abrar was brutally killed in his dormitory, Sher-e-Bangla Hall, by members of the former ruling party's student wing. The incident shocked the nation, sparking student protests and a legal battle in the pursuit of justice.
While "Room Number 2011" is not a biopic, it is a creative portrayal of true events. Speaking to Kaler Kantho, Jisan shared, "The story draws inspiration from the tragic incident surrounding Abrar Fahad. We consulted Abrar's family, friends, and relatives to ensure we accurately captured his story."
The film, with a runtime of 20-25 minutes, was shot at Jahangirnagar University, rather than BUET. Explaining this decision, Jisan said, "Our campus shares similarities with BUET's. Once viewers watch the film, they will see the resemblance. Our focus was on faithfully depicting the significance of the story rather than replicating the location."
"Room Number 2011" aims to honour Abrar's memory and shed light on the harrowing events that shook Bangladesh's academic and social landscape.
