I endured inhumane hardships for ‘Noya Manush’: Rawnak Hasan
Bangladeshi actor, director, and playwright Rawnak Hasan's latest film, "Noya Manush", is set to release next month. This marks his ninth appearance on the big screen, and after a long hiatus, Rawnak is finally returning to the big screen, expressing his excitement for the release.
In an exclusive interview with The Daily Star, Rawnak shared, "It's been a while since one of my films hit the theatres, and I'm really looking forward to it."
Recalling the grueling shoot of "Noya Manush", Rawnak explained, "We filmed in a remote location far from Chandpur city. Every day, I would take a long CNG ride from the city, then walk part of the way, take a rickshaw, and finally, cross a river on a trawler to reach a distant sandbar. That's how we got to the shoot location."
He added, "I went through inhumane hardships for this film, pushing myself to the limit with immense effort and dedication. I've rarely had to endure such physical strain for a film or TV drama before."
When asked about his character in the movie, Rawnak elaborated, "In 'Noya Manush', I portray a man who drifts away after a devastating flood. The audience will see me as this new person—someone brought in by the water. It's a story that brings you face-to-face with the harsh realities of life, an authentic, life-oriented film about marginalised communities."
On the challenges he faced during filming, the actor admitted, "It was incredibly challenging. Every aspect of the production presented its own set of difficulties, but we pushed through."
Talking about the film's director, Sohel Rana Boyati, Rawnak praised his passion and commitment. "He's a cinema enthusiast through and through, someone who truly loves film. He has big dreams, and 'Noya Manush' is the realisation of one of those dreams."
Regarding his co-star, Moushumi Hamid, Rawnak shared a light-hearted comment. "To be honest, there were moments when I didn't recognise her on set! She blended in so well with her character's look and makeup that she seemed like a real local from the sandbar. She's delivered an incredible performance in the film."
In closing, Rawnak encouraged audiences to watch the film, saying, "For those who appreciate a good story, who are always searching for meaningful cinema, 'Noya Manush' is for you. I believe you'll love it."
