CD Projekt, the Polish game developer, has recently announced that The Witcher 4, codenamed Project Polaris, has officially entered full-scale production.

In a recent post on X (formerly, Twitter) game director Sebastian Kalemba said, "I'm thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase! With new challenges just around the corner, it's the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience. No stopping now!"

Currently, 400 developers are working on Project Polaris, making up the majority of CD Projekt's 650-person development team. The game marks the first instalment of a new trilogy in The Witcher series.

Originally announced in October 2022, The Witcher 4 is not expected to release until at least 2025. While much of the plot remains under wraps, fans have been buzzing about potential new protagonists. While Geralt of Rivia, the beloved lead of the original trilogy, will appear in Polaris, voice actor Doug Cockle has confirmed he won't be the main character.

Speculation by fans is ongoing that Ciri could take centre stage. Hints supporting this theory include a teaser image showing a lynx-shaped medallion, suggesting a new Witcher school. In CD Projekt's extended Witcher universe, Ciri is known to have worn a medallion from the School of the Cat, aligning with her nimble fighting style.
