Tanzim’s Guyana ease past Lahore in GSL opener
Bangladesh pacer Tanzim Sakib earned the distinction of claiming the first ever wicket in Global Super League (GSL) and played his part with the ball in Guyana Amazon Warriors' six-wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the opening match of GSL at the Providence Stadium in Guyana today.
Sakib trapped Lahore opener Mirza Baig lbw for five in the second over of the match and also claimed the 10th wicket of the innings by getting Salman Mirza (two) caught in the final over as Lahore were bundled out for 125 in 19.2 overs after they were asked to bat first.
Sakib finished with figures of 2-20 in 3.2 overs. Pacer Dwaine Pretorius was the most successful of all the Guyana bowlers, claiming 4-21 and Hassan Khan also picked a couple of wickets.
For Lahore, English batter Tom Abell top-scored with 48 off 45 balls.
In reply, Shai Hope's unbeaten 45 off 43 balls guided Guyana to 129-4 in 17.5 overs, ensuring a comfortable win for the home side.
The GSL is a new tournament in which teams from five different countries are taking part. Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Rangpur Riders are competing in the event and will begin their campaign against English team Hampshire tomorrow.
