Spotify users can now search songs using Google’s Gemini AI
Spotify has integrated with Google's Gemini Extensions, enabling users to search for and play music through natural language commands. This new feature, available on compatible Android devices, leverages Google's generative AI assistant to simplify music discovery, according to a report by 9to5Google.
Gemini allows users to find music by specifying song titles, artist names, album titles, playlist names, or even suggesting music for specific activities. However, it currently lacks the ability to create playlists or radio stations within Spotify.
If users have previously linked another music service, such as YouTube Music, they must specify Spotify in their initial request for Gemini to use it, after which the AI will default to the last-used service.
To use the Spotify extension with Gemini, users must first link their Spotify and Google accounts and enable Gemini Apps Activity. This feature temporarily stores AI queries for up to 72 hours. Currently, the extension cannot be accessed through Google Messages, the Gemini web app, or Gemini's iOS app, and it is only functional when Gemini's language settings are set to English.
Spotify is the second third-party app to gain compatibility with Gemini, following WhatsApp's integration in October.
