'Voyal' to hit 18 cinemas nationwide tomorrow
The new interim government that has risen in the wake of the anti-discrimination student movement, has been bringing about changes to many governance sectors, including the film industry. With the disbanding of the censor board several weeks ago, the formation of a new certification board has set the stage for the first adult-rated movie, "Voyal", to premiere under this system.
"Voyal", directed by Biplob Hayder, is set to release tomorrow with an extensive promotional campaign already in motion. Starring Irfan Sajjad, the movie marks his second big-screen appearance after building a career in television dramas. He has been an active part of promotions throughout Dhaka by sharing his excitement about the film's unique message.
"The story of 'Voyal' offers something truly different. It's going to leave a lasting impression on viewers," Sajjad expressed. "Given how Bangladesh's film industry is evolving, I believe 'Voyal' will have a positive impact."
He particularly acknowledged that younger audiences, especially those under 18, might find it hard to digest. He said, "The content could be a bit traumatic for them, which is why the movie has been rated for mature audiences."
Actress Aisha Khan stars opposite Sajjad, playing the role of a rural teenager. She highlighted the challenges faced during filming in the hill tracts, noting the depth of the film's themes. "'Voyal' gives life to love, pain, and struggle on screen. We've poured our hearts into this movie, and I'm hopeful the audience will appreciate it."
Director Biplob Hayder has urged people to experience "Voyal" in theatres, emphasising the depth of the storyline. "It's a story-driven film, and I believe the audience will be fully immersed. I encourage everyone to come to the cinemas and support Bangladeshi films."
The film features a notable ensemble cast, including Golam Farida Chhonda, Lutfor Rahman George, and Mack Badsha.
While the official number of theatres showing the film is yet to be confirmed, Mack Badsha revealed that 18 theatres have already been secured, with more expected to be added before the final list is published tomorrow.
