Dhaka Metro finish campaign on a high
Dhaka Metro finished their ongoing National Cricket League (NCL) campaign on a high note after they beat Chattogram Division by five wickets on the third day of the seventh and last round match at the Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi on Monday.
Chasing 139 runs, Metro rode on Aich Mollah's 42 runs and Mohammad Naim's 35 runs to reach the target, finishing their campaign with 29 points from seven matches.
Earlier, resuming an overnight score of 173 for six, Chattogram could add 73 runs before they were bowled out for 246 runs in their second innings. Arif Ahmed claimed 5-80, while Abu Hider Rony took four wickets for Metro.
In Chattogram, the final day is all set to witness a thrilling finish as champions Sylhet Division will require 59 runs with two wickets in hand against Rajshahi Division.
On Monday, Rajshahi, who resumed on 70 for three, set Sylhet a target of 201 runs after tallying 186 runs in their second innings. Pritom Kumar and Nihad Uz Zaman made 44 and 43 runs, respectively, for Rajshahi.
Meanwhile, in a poignant moment, Rajshahi's veteran all-rounder Farhad Reza played his final first-class knock, but he departed without scoring.
Sylhet then faced the wrath of Nihad's bowling as he claimed four wickets for 24, while Shafiqul Islam took three wickets to reduce the champions to 142 for eight at stumps, despite skipper Amite Hasan's making 71 runs.
In Bogura, Barishal Division took a lead of 186 runs over Dhaka Division after they reached 207 for five at stumps, with Fazle Mahmud and Moinul Islam scoring 50 and 56 runs, respectively.
Earlier on the day, Dhaka declared their first innings at 310 for nine after resuming on 303 for eight.
Meanwhile, in Khulna, Khulna Division extended their lead to 117 runs after they finished the third day at six without loss in their second innings against Rangpur Division.
Earlier, Khulna pacer Mehedi Hasan Rana claimed a career-best 7-31 to dismantle Rangpur's batting lineup as they were bowled out for just 133 runs in their first innings.
Earlier on the day, Khulna added four runs to their overnight score of 240 for seven before they were bowled out for 244 runs in their first innings.
