HC upholds decision to limit tourism in Saint Martin's Island
The High Court today upheld a government decision to limit tourism in Saint Martin's Island for protection of environment.
The court rejected a writ petition filed by Mohammad Abdul Malek, a Saint Martin's local, seeking its order on the government to withdraw the decision to restrict the number of tourists on the island.
The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the rejection order considering the petition was not properly presented before it, Deputy Attorney General Mahfuz Bin Yousuf told The Daily Star.
He said the government's decision to limit tourism in Saint Martin's Island will remain effective following the HC order.
Writ petitioner's lawyer Mohammad Sultan Mahmud said that the HC passed the order saying the government is relaxing the restriction on tourism to the island.
The government imposed the restriction on October 28 for a few months as part of its efforts to ensure an environment friendly atmosphere there, he added.
